Lemons

"WHEN LIFE GIVES YOU LEMONS, MAKE LEMONADE"

In the world of Financially Struggling Newly Weds, in a hurting economy, Matthew and I have been through a lot of trials and changes.

When we first got Married We both has jobs, we lived in one of our rental units and had our own little space, and everything seemed to be going as it should as newly weds. :) Then news came. . . Matthew lost his job! (LEMON)He was making WAY more than i was. . . so suddenly we were in a bad position. He of course started looking for a new job, but . . . . no luck. so we moved out of our little duplex and rented the unit out, and moved in with Matthew's mom last summer. (LEMON) Matthew kept busy doing side jobs, and taking care of maintenance for the rentals, and still went to job interviews and continued searching for work. (LEMONADE) Come August, Matthew still had no work and, SURPRISE, I got laid off. (LEMON)All the While we no longer had our own little apartment, we were living with his mother. Which we of course appreciate the help, but it's hard living with family, but it was saving us! (LEMONADE)

After 6 weeks of unemployment for the both of us, FINALLY I found a new job, the job i still have today! it's going great so far! :) (LEMONADE) Matthew also found not only 1 new job but 3 !!!!!! So now he is keeping VERY busy while he is still looking for a more stable, full time job, with benefits and all that jazz! but he's keeping busy and bringing in some cash for us. . . so things were looking up. (LEMONADE)

Suddenly Things changed again. Our living situation was to only pay the utilities at his mom's house, well recently she upped our rent to $450 per month. (LEMONADE) Which is just too steep for us to get out of the debt we need to to get out into our own place again. We still have a few months left to be debt free. . . so we are moving once again, but moving into mom and dad Johnston's home. So this week i am again packing and moving all of our stuff into ANOTHER temporary home. (LEMON) We are very grateful again for my parents for taking us in. besides. . . they have a pool, hot tub, and TIVO. lol can't really complain about all of that! j/k (LEMONADE)
We are so grateful for the help of our parents during these hard times, thankful to friends and family for their help and support during this hard year of changes, and challenges. Matthew and I have grown closer together and have had to learn to communicate with eachother to make important decisions together about finances, living situations, and more! It's been a bit of a roller coaster ride, but we will both be stronger for it. (LEMONADE)

  2. Laurie, I understand how you feel! Parents are wonderful and a huge blessing, I admire your determination to get out of debt! Clay and I were in this same spot. We had a house payment and tried to find work for 3 months with no luck! The Air Force was a huge blessing to us and me being able to live with my parents while he was in boot camp was wonderful! All I can say is keep chugging along - I feel the Lord has blessed us with our desire to pay off our debts too and he will for you! Love you guys!
